Hout Bay United Football Community
Jeremy Elson, samen met Jaap Kreeftenberg één van de grondleggers, vertelt over het initiatief: ‘Hout Bay is like a minature version of South Africa and many of the Nations social struggles play our in our small village. The shadow of apartheid still looms over the country. There are very few areas of society where cultures mix on level terms. There’s inequality in education & living standards with people from the same community often living worlds apart but literally meters away from each other.
Our project uses football to bring our comunities together. We train our players as coaches and they inspire and mentor the next generation of kids who grow up playing with each other instead of against each other. We show that hard work pays off. That we’re stronger together, working as a community and we bring pride to our town showing how much we can achieve.
The Hout Bay United Football Community (HBUFC) is a non-profit football club created to unify the racially and economically divided community of Hout Bay, a seaside suburb of Cape Town, South Africa’.
